EDMONTON, AB- The Canada west sports league is cancelling all sports for the fall semester.

The league announced Monday (June 8) that because of COVID-19, university sports will look very different this fall across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

No conference competition (regular season, playoff, or championships) will occur in football, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s rugby 15s, and women’s field hockey during the first term of the 2020-21 season.

Schools such as the University of Lethbridge, University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, Grant Macewen, etc. will all have no organized sports and competitions until the second semester of next year.

Other leagues like the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) have yet to say what their plans are regarding the upcoming fall semester.

In spite of obstacles presented by the pandemic, as time progresses, plans for organized sports and more ideas will be generated once there is a clearer picture of what can be expected.
