EDMONTON, AB– Starting Thursday, June 11, a new concert series called Alberta Spotlight will be launched.

The province issued a statement saying “We are partnering with Alberta Music, the National Music Centre, Stagehand and CKUA to bring you an at-home concert series featuring the best of Alberta music. Each concert will feature Alberta artists, live from their homes or studios, and will run weekly throughout the summer.”

Alberta Spotlight is providing funding to get local Alberta artists through a time of uncertainty.

Many local musicians are left without concert or show dates because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and this could be their shot at getting some recognition.

The Government of Alberta has pledged $125,000 to support the initiative that will pay musicians to perform online.

Artists selected will receive a $1,000 grant to create a 3-song, pre-recorded, high-quality video to be shared as part of the Alberta Spotlight online series.
