LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s volleyball team has added another player to its roster.

Medicine Hat’s Shane Fowlie has committed to the team for the 2020-2021 season. Fowlie played her secondary years at Monsignor McCoy High School.

“We have been watching Shane since our high school tournament last year,” said head coach Anna Schwark in a release.

“She really caught my eye at the tournament because of her presence on the court, she is very athletic and very strong so we knew she would be able to keep up with the pace of play.”

Along with being skilled athletically, Fowlie is said to be very hard worker.

“After training with Shane and getting to know her, it was apparent she is a hard worker in the gym with a great attitude,” Schwark stated.

“I think she clicked with the girls really well.”

The newest Kodiak is a two-time South East Zone Volleyball League (SEZVL) all-star and helped her high school claim the 2019 SEZVL championship.

At the club level, her South East Alberta Volleyball Club (SEAVC) Broncos U17 team captured silver at provincials last year. Fowlie was also named to the Volleyball Alberta U17 Division II all-star team.

Although COVID-19 has caused uncertainty around next season, the new recruit says she is excited to get on the court with her new squad.

“From the first time I practiced with the Kodiaks I felt welcomed by the team and enjoyed working with the coaches.”

“I am very excited to be a part of this team. I have been looking forward to a higher level of competition and I can’t wait to take my volleyball career to the next level by becoming a Kodiak. Being able to join a team with such awesome girls and coaches makes this opportunity very special.”

For her schooling, Fowlie plans on pursuing a degree in education.
