Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens now open

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Although it is a month later than originally expected, one of Lethbridge’s biggest tourist attractions is once again up and running.

Executive Director of the Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden Michelle Day says it was exciting to open the gates, but while they do have some new opportunities for guests, there are also some new restrictions.

Attendance will be limited to 50 visitors per hour in the garden and 10 in the visitors centre.

For the time being, there will be no usual guided tours for the time being.

“Although we cannot offer our guided tours during this first phase, we have added many new features that we hope will provide the same level of knowledge that our guests would typically receive while still allowing them to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet,” says Day.

All guests will be given a comprehensive self-guided brochure that details key information about the garden, its history, and the history of Japanese Canadians in Southern Alberta. New signage is in place to give more information about key locations.

A brand new audio tour can be listened to on the Nikka Yuko website.

Tea ceremonies and yoga programming are still being offered but with restricted attendance and new hours.

The Japanese Gardens are open Thursdays to Mondays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors are encouraged to buy tickets for admission online.
