LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges following an altercation with a local business owner and police.

Lethbridge Police Service stated that on June 15, at around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a request for help from a business owner in the 2400 block of Fairway Plaza Rd. South.

The owner told police that “a male is going crazy”, that the individual was refusing to leave the store and there was yelling and screaming.

LPS noted that the man was causing a major disturbance and was suspected to be intoxicated. The man left the business before re-entering and assaulting the owner, according to police.

Police noted that a co-owner of the business attempted to intervene but was assaulted in the process and received minor injuries.

Officers arrived on scene and the man was taken into custody. Police reported that the man threatened to smash an officer’s head. The man was able to get his handcuffs in front of his body as police began to transport him away. LPS stated that the man broke the officer/prisoner partition in the police vehicle and grabbed a police rifle with his hands, in an attempt to dislodge the weapon from its secure mounts.
