Canada loses bid for seat on the United Nations Security Council
OTTAWA – Canada has lost its bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council.
Canada’s loss came in the first round of voting today in a secret ballot of 193 member states of the United Nations General Assembly.
Similar votes occurred under former Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2010 and after current PM Justin Trudeau declared Canada’s candidacy after coming to power in 2015.
Canada lost to Norway and Ireland for two available seats for a two-year term starting next year.
