LETHBRIDGE, AB- The Western Hockey League has put a plan in place to start the 2020-2021 season.

Since it was decided in March that the rest of the WHL’s season was going to be cancelled, the league’s head office went to work for the upcoming season.

The WHL has targeted a start date of Friday, October 2 for the 2020-21 WHL Regular Season.

Everything depends on what the health protocols are like by then, at the start of the next season.

The WHL has appointed special task forces for six jurisdictions to work directly with government and health authorities to ensure the health and safety of WHL players, staff, officials, and fans are a top priority.

League officials say they fully intend to complete a full 68-game schedulE for 2020-21, regardless of when the season begins.

The WHL is also working with government and health authorities in each jurisdiction on the level of spectator capacities that will be permitted in each WHL Club arena facility.

More details to come when they have an idea of what’s happening with COVID-19.
