Jun 18, 2020 | 9:06 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE: Lethbridge Animal Services (LAS) confirmed Thursday afternoon, shortly before 4:00 p.m., that the woman involved in the incident described below “promptly contacted” the LAS office after they put out their request for information.

LAS stated that following their investigation, it was found that both people involved in the incident attempted to locate each other, but both were unsuccessful.

“Animal Control Officers have spoken with both parties, who have been cooperative, and arrangements have been made to have the vet fees covered for the victim dog,” read a statement from LAS.

“At this time, we are confident that proper steps have now been taken by the subject dog owner to ensure that the dog is always under proper control and we have no reason to believe there are any future safety concerns.”

LAS reported that the owner of the large breed dog that bit the victim dog has been charged with ‘Dog Bites an Animal’ under the Dog Control Bylaw for the City of Lethbridge.

“Animal Control Officers want to remind all pet owners that you are ultimately responsible for the care and control of your dog at all times and have the responsibility to be in compliance with all bylaws, and to ensure both the public and other pets are safe,” LAS stated.

Lethbridge Animal Services is reminding residents that if they are ever involved in a dog attack incident, they should call 403-320-4099 as soon as possible.

(ORIGINAL STORY)

Animal Control Officers in Lethbridge are looking to speak with a woman they say was involved in a ‘dog attack incident’ last week.

According to a notice from Lethbridge Animal Services (LAS), the incident occurred near Father Leonard Van Tighem School on Stoney Crescent West in Lethbridge the evening of June 9.

It was reported that at around 9:00 p.m., a young man was walking his dog east along a paved pathway leading from the school to the Heritage neighbourhood.

LAS says he crossed paths with a woman and her dog at the University Drive pedestrian underpass. It’s believed that the woman’s dog lunged, broke away from its collar and leash and began to attack the young man’s dog, which resulted in several bites to the dog’s leg.

LAS noted that the young male tried to break up the dogs and when the alleged attack ended, the woman and her dog left the scene without providing any assistance or information.

The victim dog required emergency care from a veterinarian, but according to LAS, now appears to be recovering well.

The woman reportedly involved is described as a middle-aged woman who was wearing dark-colored sports clothing and was walking a medium to large breed dark-colored dog.

Animal Control Officers have received surveillance footage from cameras at Father Leonard Van Tighem School, which they say shows the woman allegedly involved in the incident.

Anyone with further details is asked to contact Lethbridge Animal Services at 403-320-4099.
