Curbside recycling program saves 3,750 tonnes of recyclables from landfill in first year
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The first year of the City of Lethbridge’s curbside recycling program has proven to be successful.
The City says due to residents taking part in the program, 3,750 tonnes of recyclable material has been saved from the Lethbridge landfill.
Waste and Recycling staff have reported an increase of 119 percent more material gathered through curbside collection than at the recycling stations for the period of May 14, 2019 to May 14, 2020 – compared to May 14, 2018 to May 13, 2019.
For the last 12 months, 78 percent of recyclables were collected at residential curbsides and 22 percent were collected at recycling stations.
