LETHBRIDGE, AB – A man police describe as a “prolific property offender” has been arrested.

On June 22, the LPS says the Priority Crimes Unit (PCU) was investigating the activities of Peter Bissonette, a “habitual and prolific property offender in Lethbridge”.

Police say Bissonette has a long criminal history which includes but it not limited to property crime offences. The 47-year-old had been charged and released from custody numerous times recently.

On Monday, LPS released a notice stating that Bissonette had been apprehended and charged with possession of a controlled substance last Thursday, June 18.

The PCU spotted Bissonette entering a liquor store in the 1200 block of 2A Avenue North, despite conditions stemming from previous charges to not be at the commercial businesses in the area.

With the help of Patrols and the K9 Unit, the PCU attempted to arrest Bissonette for breaching his conditions but he fled from officers.

Patrol members and K9 apprehended the man while he was fleeing in the 400 block of 12B Street North.

Police say stolen property from the north side store was subsequently recovered.

EMS was called to examine the 47-year-old and he was medically cleared for police transport. Bissonette was charged with breach of release conditions, resisting arrest and theft under $5,000.

He is scheduled to appear before a Justice of the Peace for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
