44 new COVID-19 cases confirmed provincially, including one in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has provided its latest on COVID-19 for Wednesday, June 24.

44 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 7,825. Of those, 538 cases are still active while 7,134 people have recovered.

The only new infection in the South Health Zone was in West Lethbridge, meaning 37 people in the city have contracted it so far. Of those, five cases are active.

There were no additional deaths anywhere in the province, meaning the virus has claimed the lives of 153 Albertans.

The province has reached a new benchmark for COVID-19 testing, surpassing 400,000. The total to date is now 409,352.

The regional breakdown is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 5,229 cases, 219 active
    • 112 deaths
    • 160,622 tests
  • South Zone – 1,289 cases, 23 active
    • 10 deaths
    • 27,226 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 914 cases, 250 active
    • 14 deaths
    • 111,489 tests
  • North zone – 288 cases, 40 active
    • 16 deaths
    • 29,211 tests
  • Central zone – 89 cases, two active
    • One death
    • 27,933 tests

As for the breakdown for the South Health Zone, the province recently changed the way they display information on the geospatial map, which is how we get the information for this. Due to this change, some of the local numbers may be off from what we have previously reported.

  • Brooks – 1,119 cases, three active, nine deaths
  • Cardston County – 39 cases, eight active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 38 cases, two active
  • Lethbridge – 37 cases (one new), five active
    • West Lethbridge – 15 cases (one new), two active
    • South Lethbridge – 14 cases, zero active
    • North Lethbridge – eight cases, three active
  • Cypress County – 21 cases, zero active
  • County of Newell – 20 cases, zero active
  • Fort Macleod – Nine cases, three active
  • Lethbridge County – Three cases, two active
  • M.D. of Taber – Two cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active
