Lethbridge Police charge six in connection with group assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Six people have been charged in connection with the assault of a 47-year-old man.

Lethbridge Police say that on June 22, at around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to a large disturbance in Galt Gardens and found an injured man.

A female bystander told police she had recorded the altercation on her phone and provided a copy of the video to LPS. EMS attended the scene and treated the victim for non life-threatening injuries.

Police say the video depicted a group assaulting the victim in the street. Thanks to the footage, investigators were able to identify the individuals involved.

Over the course of the night, six people were arrested and charged.

The investigations found that the attack was precipitated by a verbal exchange between the victim and a group of people in the park who were not known to him.

The charged are all from Lethbridge and they are:

· 54-year-old Alden Jacque Blackplume is charged with assault. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court on August 13.

· 48-year-old Ernest Charles Crane Chief is charged with assault and failing to comply with release conditions. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13.

· 33-year-old Dustin Courtney Okimaw is charged with assault, assaulting a peace officer (LPS say he kicked an officer in the stomach and leg), obstructing a peace officer, resisting a peace officer and failing to comply with release conditions. Okimaw was remanded in custody and is slated to appear in court on June 30.

· 28-year-old Angela Dawn Spearchief is charged with assault. She was released from custody and is scheduled to be in court on August 13.

· 46-year-old Ruby Standing Alone is charged with assault. She was released from custody and is set to be in court on August 13.

· 34-year-old Billy Reginald Wolf Child is charged with assault. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13.
