Man arrested following series of bank robberies across Southern Alberta

CALGARY, AB – Alberta RCMP’s Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit has arrested a man accused of robbing numerous banks in the region.

They claim Jesse Damond Morton, 44, of Calgary, committed seven separate bank robberies between August 2019 and April 2020.

The incidents occurred in Magrath, Granum, twice in Vauxhall, Caroline, Trochu, and Calgary.

On Tuesday, June 23, Morton was arrested in Calgary.

A search warrant was conducted at a storage locker, which resulted in the seizures of an SKS rifle and $2,750 in U.S. cash.

He faces a total of 21 charges including seven counts of robbery, seven counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence, two counts of using a firearm during the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

Following a bail hearing, it was determined that Morton will remain in custody.

He is scheduled to appear in Airdrie Provincial Court on July 23.
