Provincial relaunch grant to help businesses opens Monday

Jun 29, 2020 | 9:06 AM

EDMONTON, AB – Eligible small and medium-sized businesses, co-ops and non-profits can apply for some new financial relief starting Monday.

Applications for the Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant officially open at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29.

It aims to help businesses, cooperatives (co-ops) and non-profits that faced restrictions or closures from COVID-19 public health orders and experienced a revenue loss of at least 50 percent due to the pandemic.

Eligible job creators can apply for up to $5,000 through the grant.

The provincial government says the relief can help cover costs they are facing as they reopen their doors. This includes the costs of implementing measures to prevent the spread of the virus, such as physical barriers, personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies, as well as rent, employee wages, and replacing inventory.

To be eligible, small and medium-sized businesses, cooperatives and non-profits must have 500 employees or less. The program has a budget of $200 million.

Applications for the grant will remain open until August 31, or for four weeks following the start of stage three of Alberta’s relaunch strategy – whichever is later.

To manage the expected high volume of applications, during the first week of intake (June 29-July 3), a specific application day has been designated for specific regions of the province. During this time, applicants are encouraged to apply on the application day that is specified for their region.

Starting July 4, businesses, co-ops and non-profits from all regions can apply at any time until the application intake closes.

Further details about the grant can be found through the provincial government’s website here.

The province added that a web page and online application portal will launch on alberta.ca when the application intake opens at 10:00 a.m.
