South Region adds four new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday

EDMONTON, AB. — ***Please note, the next COVID-19 update from Alberta Health will be provided Thursday (July 2) afternoon.

After spiking to 71 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, Tuesday’s provincial COVID-19 update showed 41 new cases, out of 7,198 tests completed.

The province has confirmed 8,108 cases over the course of the pandemic. There are 41 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, nine of whom are in ICU. The death toll is holding at 154. As well, there is a total 7,405 recovered cases, an increase of 51, and the number of active cases dropped by 12 to 547.

In the South Zone there are four new cases, bringing the total to 1,309. There are 28 active cases, 1,271 recovered and 10 deaths in the zone. There are no current hospitalizations in the zone.

Calgary zone – 232 active cases, 18 in hospital, 9 in ICU

  • 112 deaths – 5,008 recovered

South Zone – 26 active cases, no hospitalizations at this time

  • 10 deaths, 1,271 recovered

Edmonton zone – 246 active cases, 18 in hospital, 3 in ICU

  • 15 deaths, 767 recovered

North zone – 36 active cases, 5 in hospital, one in ICU

  • 16 deaths, 260 recovered

Central zone – four active cases, no hospitalizations at this time

  • One death, 88 recovered

As for the breakdown for the South Health Zone, the province recently changed the way they display information on the geospatial map, which is how we get the information. Due to this change, some of the local numbers may be off from what we have previously reported.

Brooks – 1,119 cases, one active

Lethbridge – 43 cases, 8 active

  • West Lethbridge – Six active cases
  • South Lethbridge – No active cases
  • North Lethbridge – Two active cases

Cardston County – 40 cases, four active, one death

Medicine Hat – 42 cases, six active (one new)

Cypress County – 24 cases, 3 active (3 new)

County of Newell – 20 cases, zero active

Fort Macleod – 7 cases, one active

Lethbridge County – Three cases, zero active

M.D. of Taber – Seven cases, five active

County of Forty Mile – Two cases, zero active

County of Warner – One case, one active
