COVID-19 claims its first life in County of Warner

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, July 8.

46 new cases were confirmed across the province, taking the total to 8,436. Of those, 608 cases are still active while 7,716 people have recovered.

This includes another six infections in the South Health Zone, which are spread out among six different communities.

One person in the County of Warner died as a result of the virus.

While Alberta Health does not provide names for those deceased, the patient was a man 80+ years old.

After going months without a single COVID case, the county saw a large spike in recent weeks with as many as 41 people contracting it.

A new benchmark for testing has been reached in Alberta with 500,203 tests completed to date.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 5,465 cases, 230 active
    • 112 deaths
    • 186,944 tests
  • South zone – 1,381 cases, 88 active
    • 12 deaths (one new)
    • 31,743 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 1,175 cases, 232 active
    • 17 deaths
    • 142,108 tests
  • North zone – 345 cases, 45 active
    • 16 deaths
    • 35,114 tests
  • Central zone – 96 cases, six active
    • One death
    • 32,356 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,119 cases, one active, nine deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 50 cases (one new), 11 active, one death
  • Lethbridge – 49 cases (one new), 11 active
    • West Lethbridge – 22 cases, seven active
    • South Lethbridge – 16 cases, two active
    • North Lethbridge – 11 cases (one new), two active
  • Cardston County – 42 cases (one new), four active, one death
  • County of Warner – 41 cases, 39 active, one death (one new)
  • Cypress County – 30 cases (one new), nine active
  • County of Newell – 21 cases, one active
  • M.D. of Taber – 12 cases, nine active
  • Fort Macleod – Seven cases, zero active
  • County of Forty Mile – Five cases (one new), two active
  • Lethbridge County – Four cases (one new), one active
