Fire Station no. 5 Construction -- LNN

New Lethbridge fire station construction coming along

Jul 8, 2020 | 12:32 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Work is progressing nicely for Lethbridge’s new Fire Station #5.

The $10.3 million project is set to be finished around January of 2021 if things go to plan.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic has put many events on hold, the construction of the new station has been going smoothly other than delays due to the virus.

Lethbridge Fire Chief Marc Rathwell says the construction could be done at the end of January of next year, but we can see the station operating close to June of 2021.

Rathwell says the new fire station is severely needed for West Lethbridge.

“We have had one station trying to cover the entire population of the Westside and almost half the population for the city so this is going to absolutely bolster our ability to respond.”

Rathwell says it’s critical to have enough fire staff on each scene in the city to stay safe and prevent other damages.

Over the past couple of months, the new station has seen many improvements to the interior of the structure and a completely new shell around the building.

Below is the progress on the construction in March 2020.
