Different reality for local businesses since relaunch: Lethbridge Chamber

LETHBRIDGE, AB– It has been almost one month since Alberta started Phase 2 of the province’s relaunch strategy, and businesses are reacting differently to the reopenings.

Reopening business during a pandemic has certainly had its challenges and some businesses around Lethbridge still aren’t allowed to open yet.

Chief Executive Officer at the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce Cyndi Vos says, at first, many businesses were hesitant to open doors.

“Once businesses got those stores opened and started to see their customers come back in, that gave them a lot of courage to continue forward.”

Vos believes opening the doors was important for not only the businesses but the customers in the city too.

“People are still wondering how they can be outside and in restaurants safely together and people need the reassurance of going into the smaller businesses as well and that’s important in the city.”

Vos says after doing a survey of businesses in Lethbridge, many are happy that they can work through this pandemic and some are feeling otherwise.

The results of that survey are expected to be released shortly.

“Once we get into August and September and we know what the fall can bring is really what is holding us back right now.”

The unknown of where the world’s new normal is going is scary to people, according to Vos, and only time will tell.
