Amazon “brushing” scam quite serious according to BBB

Jul 18, 2020 | 8:00 AM

CALGARY, AB– Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning consumers about a scary scam which has free merchandise from Amazon delivered right to your doorstep.

BBB says there is a secret scam in getting items delivered to your door because phony companies benefit from your delivery jackpot.

This scam leads to a person’s private information from their Amazon account falling into the hands of thieves.

BBB said the worst outcome possible is very serious.

“The fact that someone was able to have the items sent to you as if you purchased them suggests that they have some of your Amazon account information. Certainly, they have your name and address, and possibly, your phone number and a password.”

“If your credit card is linked to your Amazon account, scammers could use it to purchase the products that are delivered to you. In the end, they get the money for the purchase, increased sales numbers and seemingly all positive reviews.”

BBB advises anyone that is buying anything from Amazon that if something feels “off”, call BBB and report any problem.
