34 COVID cases confirmed in South Zone this weekend, 12 for Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released its latest report on COVID-19.

The numbers released Monday include statistics for Friday, July 17 to Sunday, July 19.

In that time, another 368 cases were confirmed around the province with 165 on Friday, 106 on Saturday, and 97 on Sunday.

This means that, to date, 9,587 people have contracted the virus with 1,109 cases being active and 8,308 people have recovered.

Of the new cases, 34 were in the South Health Zone. Most significantly, another 12 infections were announced in Lethbridge including eight on the north side, and Cardston County and Fort Macleod each had another five.

Three more Albertans died as a result of the virus with two in the Edmonton Zone and one in the Calgary zone. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 170 Albertans.

86 patients are currently in hospital and 17 have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

590,502 tests for the virus have been completed in the province.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 5,996 cases, 553 active
    • 114 deaths (one new)
    • 211,508 tests
  • South zone – 1,531 cases, 119 active
    • 13 deaths
    • 36,538 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 1,391 cases, 225 active
    • 25 deaths (two new)
    • 166,964 tests
  • North zone – 436 cases, 76 active
    • 17 deaths
    • 41,234 tests
  • Central zone – 230 cases, 131 active
    • One death
    • 38,021 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,121 cases, three active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 88 cases (12 new), 38 active
    • West Lethbridge – 40 cases (two new), 18 active
    • South Lethbridge – 25 cases (two new), nine active
    • North Lethbridge – 23 cases (eight new), 11 active
  • Cardston County – 60 cases (five new), 17 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 54 cases (three new), five active, one death
  • County of Warner – 47 cases (two new), five active, one death
  • Cypress County – 30 cases, zero active
  • Fort Macleod – 25 cases (five new), 13 active
  • County of Newell – 23 cases (one new), two active
  • M.D. of Taber – 19 cases (one new), seven active
  • Lethbridge County – 17 cases, 10 active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 14 cases (three new), 12 active
  • County of Forty Mile – Eight cases, two active
  • Crowsnest Pass – One case, one active
