AHS warns of COVID-19 testing scam

Jul 24, 2020 | 3:14 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new scam has been making the rounds in Alberta with a connection to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says they have received reports of a phone scam where people are told that they have been potentially exposed to the virus and need to be tested.

The caller then asks for credit card information.

“AHS will never call and ask for credit card information,” reads a statement from AHS.

If you get a call like this, they say to hang up immediately and report the call to the non-emergency line of your local law enforcement.

All Albertans are eligible to be tested for COVID-19 whether they have symptoms or not.

Tests are conducted at no extra charge, and therefore, credit card information is not needed.
