TABER, AB – A 7-Eleven in Taber has been forced to temporarily close due to the novel coronavirus.

According to a notice from the business at 5023 50 Avenue in Taber, an employee at the store tested positive for COVID-19.

“We have temporarily closed the store to thoroughly clean and sanitize the location. We are asking staff to self-isolate with pay for 14 days per provincial health guidelines,” reads a letter posted outside of the business.

The notice was corroborated by 7-Eleven Canada’s corporate office.

“The health and safety of our customers, employees and the communities we serve is the top priority for 7-Eleven Canada,” the company said.

Customers who visited the store between July 13 and 25 are being asked to visit ahs.ca/covid to access the COVID-19 online self-assessment tool.

“As a neighborhood store and convenient delivery provider in so many communities, 7-Eleven Canada has taken steps to prioritize the health of our customers and employees across our 636 stores in Canada,” the company said.

“We have enhanced our standards and procedures for hygiene, hand washing, sanitation, food handling and preparation in stores, and increased the frequency of cleaning high-tough surfaces. We have installed sneeze guards at sales counters and visual floor markers in checkout lines that reinforce social distancing, as well as limit customer traffic in stores.

7-Eleven Canada confirmed that the plan is to re-open the store on or before August 9, in consultation with Alberta Health Services.
