LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the long weekend.

Between Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, 303 new infections were confirmed provincially, bringing the total to 11,146. Of those, 1,191 cases are still active while 9,754 people have recovered.

Of the new infections, 23 were in the South Health Zone. Cardston County comprised the bulk of these with an additional 14 infections.

Two people in that area died as a result of the virus. Both were men at least 80 years old.

There were also another three deaths in the Edmonton Health Zone, meaning COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 201 Albertans.

85 patients are currently hospitalized and 23 have been admitted to intensive care units (ICU).

It is not all bad news, however, as Dr. Deena Hinshaw says things have improved in the province recently.

“Two weeks ago, I called our numbers a wake-up call. Today, we are starting to see the result of Albertans answering that challenge. The number of active cases has decreased by more than 200 since last week. There are now 1,191 active cases in the province, down from more than 1,400 on July 28.”
