LETHBRIDGE, AB – Swimmers will be able to visit the Max Bell Regional Aquatic Centre next week.

The University of Lethbridge and Horns Recreation have announced that the facility will reopen on Monday, August 10, with limitations in place due to COVID-19.

Drop-in bookings and registration for Horns Recreation Fall programs are now open as well.

In addition to the pool reopening, the Day Use and Member Change Rooms will be available for people using the Centre for Sport & Wellness. The U of L noted that entrance to the facility is available through the south doors of the 1st Choice Savings Centre only, with parking in Lot G free until August 31.

Similar to previous measures set for the Fitness Centre, Stadium, climbing wall, gyms and track, each person will have to book a time slot in advance. The U of L said this is a way to control the number of people in the facility and allow for proper cleaning between uses.

Time slots and registration can be accessed here.

Some aquatic programs, such as private swim lessons, remain suspended for the time being.

LIMITATIONS AND SAFETY MEASURES

As of next Monday, masks will be mandatory at the University of Lethbridge. This applies to the Max Bell Aquatic Centre as well. Users are asked to wear their masks while navigating to and from the pool area.

All patrons will have to take a shower before entering the pool. Personal belongings can be stored on the pool deck in designated areas, and physical distancing will be enforced at all times.

Some features at the facility will remain closed. These include the viewing gallery, diving platform, steam rooms and rope swing.

The U of L noted that users who take part in the Fitness Swimmer Program will be able to log their swims from home or from a portable device using a new mobile-friendly version of the site.

Flutter boards will be available for use but will be thoroughly sanitized after each use. All other equipment, like flippers, pull buoys and pool toys will not be available.

The U of L and Horns Recreation maintain that the facility will be cleaned and regularly sanitized throughout and at the end of each day, in accordance to Lifesaving Society of Alberta & Northwest Territories guidelines.
