Alberta Health reports two COVID-19 deaths in South Zone this weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Monday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past three days.

257 cases were confirmed over the weekend including 108 on Friday, 101 on Saturday, and 48 on Sunday. 11,687 Albertans have contracted the virus with 1,090 being active and 10,384 people have recovered.

That includes nine more infections in the South Health Zone with the County of Forty Mile having three and Lethbridge seeing another two.

Two people in the South Health Zone have died as a result of COVID-19 since Friday, one from Medicine Hat and one from the County of Newell. Alberta Health Services has not detailed the gender or ages of these two.

As well, two people in the Edmonton Zone and one in the North Zone have also succumbed to the virus. To date, it has claimed the lives of 213 Albertans.

66 people are currently hospitalized and 14 have been admitted to intensive care units.

The good news is that active infections in the region have fallen from 90 on Thursday to 61 on Monday. Just for Lethbridge, that has decreased by nearly half from 44 to 23.

770,266 tests have been completed among 631,295 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 6,776 cases, 365 active
    • 114 deaths
    • 261,203 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 1,992 cases, 388 active
    • 54 deaths (two new)
    • 206,968 tests
  • South zone – 1,695 cases, 61 active
    • 20 deaths (two new)
    • 45,614 tests
  • North zone – 658 cases, 116 active
    • 20 deaths (one new)
    • 52,904 tests
  • Central zone – 542 cases, 157 active
    • Five deaths
    • 53,070 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,123 cases, zero active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 141 cases (two new), 23 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 54 cases (two new), nine active
    • West Lethbridge – 50 cases, six active, one death
    • North Lethbridge – 37 cases, eight active, one death
  • Cardston County – 100 cases, seven active, four deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 64 cases, two active, two deaths (one new)
  • County of Warner – 54 cases, zero active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 37 cases, three active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, eight active, one death
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • County of Newell – 28 cases (one new), five active, one death (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 28 cases (one new), two active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 25 cases (two new), four active
  • County of Forty Mile – 19 cases (three new), seven active
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
