Province confirms first COVID-19 death in M.D. of Taber

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

85 new cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 11,772. Of those, 1,004 cases are active while 10,552 people have recovered.

Among the new infections, nine were in the South Health Zone with two each in Cardston County and Lethbridge County as well as one each for Brooks, Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, County of Warner, and the M.D. of Taber.

The Taber area also saw one resident die as a result of COVID-19. Alberta Health has not indicated what the age or gender of this person was, nor which specific area within the municipal district they were from.

As well, two more people from the Calgary Health Zone and one in the North Zone succumbed to the virus. To date, it has claimed the lives of 216 Albertans.

62 people are currently hospitalized and 14 have been admitted to intensive care units.

777,325 tests have been completed among 636,319 different people in the province.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 6,785 cases, 322 active
    • 116 deaths (two new)
    • 262,484 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 2,041 cases, 401 active
    • 54 deaths
    • 209,135 tests
  • South zone – 1,7,04 cases, 57 active
    • 20 deaths (one new)
    • 45,793 tests
  • North zone – 670 cases, 121 active
    • 21 deaths (one new)
    • 53,652 tests
  • Central zone – 546 cases, 99 active
    • Five deaths
    • 53,585 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,124 cases (one new), one active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 142 cases (one new), 17 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 54 cases, six active
    • West Lethbridge – 51 cases (one new), three active, one death
    • North Lethbridge – 37 cases, eight active, one death
  • Cardston County – 102 cases (two new), eight active, four deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 65 cases (one new), three active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 55 cases (one new), one active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 38 cases (one new), two active, one death (one new)
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, six active, one death
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – 30 cases (two new), four active
  • County of Newell – 28 cases, five active, one death
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 25 cases, four active
  • County of Forty Mile – 19 cases, six active
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
