First COVID death confirmed in M.D. of Pincher Creek, no new infections in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Government of Alberta has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

84 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 12,053. Of those, 1,036 cases are active while 10,796 people have recovered.

None of the new infections were in the South Health Zone as the cases-to-date remained at 1,710. Active cases in the region continue to fall with just 45.

One person in the M.D. of Pincher Creek died as a result of the virus, although the age, gender, and exact community of residence for this person was not released by Alberta Health.

COVID-19 has now claimed the lives of 221 people in the province.

48 are currently hospitalized and 13 have been admitted to intensive care units.

801,360 tests have been completed among 652,819 different Albertans.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is a follows:

  • Calgary zone – 6,853 cases, 305 active
    • 116 deaths
    • 269,045 tests
  • Edmonton zone – 2,218 cases, 497 active
    • 56 deaths
    • 215,283 tests
  • South zone – 1,710 cases, 45 active
    • 21 deaths (one new)
    • 46,603 tests
  • North zone – 689 cases, 103 active
    • 22 deaths
    • 55,106 tests
  • Central zone – 546 cases, 81 active
    • Six deaths
    • 54,793 tests

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,125 cases, two active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 143 cases, 12 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 54 cases, six active
    • West Lethbridge – 51 cases, three active, one death
    • North Lethbridge – 38 cases, three active, one death
  • Cardston County – 102 cases, five active, four deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 67 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 55 cases, one active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 38 cases, one active, one death
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, five active, one death
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • Lethbridge County – 30 cases, three active
  • County of Newell – 29 cases, five active, one death
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 25 cases, two active, one death (one new)
  • County of Forty Mile – 20 cases, six active
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
