Loblaws to offer COVID-19 asymptomatic tests at 234 Albertan pharmacies

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Those without any symptoms of COVID-19 can now get tested at pharmacies owned by Loblaws.

The Government of Alberta announced in late July that pharmacies would be able to apply to offer tests.

“Testing is a powerful tool that helps us limit the spread of COVID-19 and protect people from infection. Expanded testing capacity will support additional testing opportunities for all Albertans, including school teachers and staff. This will provide a baseline for school re-entry and enhance access throughout the school year,” says Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro added that he was pleased to see the government partner with Loblaws, further cementing Alberta as a “leader in testing.”

Ashesh Desai, the Executive Vice President of Pharmacies at Shoppers Drug Mart said more than 50 Shoppers Drug Mart and Superstore locations already offered asymptomatic tests, but this expands it to more stores under that branding as well as Independent Foods, Extra Foods, City Market, and No Frills.

He believes this was an important initiative to be part of.

“Expanding asymptomatic testing to more than 230 of our pharmacies across the province will allow more access to these tests and continued peace of mind, particularly as school resumes and businesses continue to open. Our pharmacies are a convenient destination for Albertan’s healthcare needs, and our stores are proud of our ability to further support our communities during this pandemic.”

Within the next two weeks, the 234 locations will all be on board.
