Residents of a small town in Southern Alberta are asked to take extra precautions with their water.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says construction on the drinking water system lead to a “complete de-pressurization of the system, making the water vulnerable to contamination.”

A boil water advisory for the village, located 33 km northwest of Cardston, has been issued as a precautionary measure.

All residents and business owners are advised to bring their water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to any form of consumption, including for drinking, brushing teeth or rinsing your mouth, cleaning raw food, preparing infant formula or juices, or making ice.

For hand washing, they say to wash with soap and water and then use an alcohol-based sanitizer with more than 60 per cent alcohol content.

The boil water advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
