War Amps key tags on way to Alberta households

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Albertans can expect to get their War Amps key tags in the mail starting this week.

The War Amps provides artificial limbs and support for amputees. Not only does the key tag program raise awareness about the organization, it also serves as a way for people to keep track of their keys.

Each tag is equipped with a uniquely coded number and if someone’s keys are lost, a good samaritan can pick them up and place them in a Canada Post mailbox.

The keys will then be returned to their rightful owner.

Additionally, if someone loses their keys, the finder can call the toll-free number on the back of the tag and The War Amps will return them to the owner by courier, free of charge.

Public Awareness Officer Jamie Lunn noted that The War Amps does not receive any government grants and relies on funding from the public to help others.

“People often find value in The War Amps key tag service and they choose to donate, and that is how we’re able to support amputees across Canada,” Lunn told LNN.

“Our many programs support amputees by providing funding for artificial limbs and emotional support. We also have a wealth of knowledge on amputation and artificial limbs as well, so we are able to help amputees across Canada with that information.”

Lunn thanked Canadians for their support of the program.

“We are very appreciative of all those who do donate to The War Amps,” she said.

“Our very rich history, starting after the First World War and all the way to now has really been very great to help us in our crusade to help amputees across Canada and we want to continue doing that, so thank you to everyone who does donate and support The War Amps.”

Those who do not receive a key tag in the mail can order one online through The War Amps website or by calling toll-free at 1-800-250-3030.
