LETHBRIDGE, AB – While there are currently no active wildfires in Southern Alberta, we can expect to see some smoke.

A map by Firesmoke.ca shows real-time projections of where smoke from fires are expected to travel.

Starting Friday and into the weekend, we should start to see smoky clouds coming from the United States and our provincial neighbours to the west.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the SCU Lightning Complex near San Jose is burning approximately 220,968 acres (89,422 hectares) of land while the LNU Lightning Complex to the west of Sacramento covers 219,067 acres (88,653 hectares).

Firefighters in B.C. are also dealing with a couple of, albeit smaller, fires of note.

B.C. Wildfire Service reports that the Doctor Creek fire west of Canal Flats is 3,000 hectares in size while the Christie Mountain fire south of Penticton has burned 2,000 hectares.
