Lethbridge businesses advised to be aware of email bomb threat scam

Aug 26, 2020 | 2:13 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lethbridge Police have responded to three separate unfounded bomb threats received by local businesses Tuesday.

LPS is advising organizations to be aware in the event that others may be targeted.

In all three cases, the bomb threats were received via an email indicating that an explosive device had been placed inside the building and would be detonated unless a substantial amount of bitcoin was provided.

LPS attended the three locations to search the buildings as a precaution and no explosive devices were located.

There is no evidence to suggest any credible threat to public safety at this time.

The emails appear to be mass-generate and similar threats have been received by businesses and organizations in other communities.

Any local businesses that receive a bomb threat email are asked to call police at 403-328-4444.
