Positive case of COVID-19 confirmed at Chinook High School

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Chinook High School in Lethbridge has joined the list of schools to report a positive case of COVID-19.

The Lethbridge School Division sent out a notice, dated September 9, stating that Chinook had been notified by Alberta Health Services (AHS) of one case at the secondary institution.

The notice did not specify if the patient was a staff member or student.

“The school remains open for staff to attend work today, Wednesday, September 9, 2020,” read the statement.

“Out of respect to this individual and in accordance with Alberta Health Services guidelines, we cannot disclose personal details.”

Those who have not been deemed close contacts of the patient, including staff and students, are allowed to return to classes.

The division said that they have directed custodial staff to conduct enhanced cleaning protocols at Chinook High School.

“This additional cleaning will focus on areas where the individual was present along with high touch areas and surfaces throughout the facility,” the division stated.

“The health and safety of our staff, students, and community is paramount. We know this news can be distressing and supports are available.”

The division said staff will continue to work closely with AHS and the South Zone’s Medical Officer of Health to make sure they are following all ongoing recommendations.
