LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

98 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 15,191. Of those, 1,585 cases are active while 13,358 people have recovered.

This includes another five infections in the South Health Zone. Three were in Lethbridge County and there was one each in the City of Lethbridge and County of Warner.

One person in the Edmonton Zone died as a result of the virus, meaning it has now claimed the lives of 248 Albertans.

Provincially, 45 patients are currently hospitalized and seven have been admitted to intensive care units.

1,062,956 tests have been completed among 832,016 different people in the province.

So far this school year, 16 cases have been confirmed in 16 different schools across the province.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says COVID-19 has been a major concern for parents across the province who have recently sent their children back to school.

That is why the province has launched a new COVID-19 school status map.

“The map will list every school where there have been two or more cases in a school setting within a 14 day period where disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school. So far, none of the 16 schools that AHS has reported to us have met that threshold.”

In Southern Alberta, there have been positive tests in schools at Chinook High School in Lethbridge and the Raymond High School.

She adds that there is interest from some people in reporting every instance where a school had a single case of COVID-19 infection.

“We are working to understand the perspectives of school stakeholders on this as it is important that we balance transparency and confidentiality.”
