Two new assistant chief judges appointed

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Two new assistant chief judges have been appointed to the Provincial Court of Alberta.

Judge Aran Veylan was appointed as assistant chief judge for the Edmonton family and youth division.

Veylan was admitted to the bar in 1981 and has been a Provincial Court of Alberta judge since 2012.

Judge Sylvia L. Oishi was appointed as assistant chief judge for the southern region.

Oishi was admitted to the bar in 1986 and has been a Provincial Court of Alberta judge since 2008.

“I congratulate judges Veylan and Oishi on their new roles. The courts play a very important role in ensuring all Albertans can access an effective justice system, and I am confident that their dedication and experience will continue to support the work of Alberta’s judiciary.” Says Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, Kaycee Madu.

Judges Veylan and Oishi start their new roles on Sept. 1.
