Teepee raised in Galt Gardens for Reconciliation Week

Sep 22, 2020 | 3:42 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– As part of Reconciliation Week, which highlights the anniversary of the signing of Treaty 7 in 1877, a teepee was raised in Galt Gardens.

In partnership with SAGE Clan, the teepee will remain at the site until Friday, September 25, 2020.

Organizers of the flag-raising on Monday (September 21) and the raising of the teepee say this is a way to show support for all Indigenous people from those in non-Indigenous communities.

In 2018, Lethbridge City Council established the 15-member Reconciliation Lethbridge Advisory Committee (RLAC).

The RLAC includes representatives from the Lethbridge Indigenous Sharing Network (LISN), City Council, those in the business sector, the education sector, as well as other members of the community. The majority of members are Indigenous.

If you see the teepee in Galt Gardens take a moment to remember why it is there.
