Investigation into firearm discharge injury at Lethbridge Police range

LETHBRIDGE, AB– An investigation is now underway after a firearm was discharged and resulted in a serious injury at the Lethbridge Police Service firing range.

At around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, police officers were at the LPS firing range for training and were in a room when an officer, discharged a live round into a table.

A shard from the table was believed to have struck one of the officers in his left leg and left a serious injury.

Officers immediately provided medical aid to the injured officer, who was taken to the hospital where he is in stable condition.

The round that was fired has been recovered and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has stated no further information will be released at this time.
