LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Sport Council (LSC) is celebrating coaches across the region.

National Coaches Week is on now until September 27. The LSC is recognizing over 30 local coaches as part of the week.

“These coaches represent many different sports in our community, from the grassroots level to elite sport,” reads a release from the LSC.

“We will be sharing a few of these coach profiles on our website and social media daily throughout coach’s week. More importantly, we are saying #ThanksCoach to each one of them, because we appreciate their contributions to quality sport in Lethbridge.”

The profiles of various coaches can be found here.

The LSC reached out to area athletes to hear their stories on how their coaches had a positive impact on their lives, in and out of the game.

“Track and field athlete Aaron Hernandez tells us about his coach, Jaime Thomas, who he considers not only a coach, but also a mentor, role model, support system, and friend. Aaron attributes much of his success on and off the track to his coach,” the LSC said in the release.

U of L Pronghorn rugby player details the lasting impact of the late coach Ric Suggitt, saying he inspired the late Logan Boulet to be an organ donor.

“Their legacies live on because of the increase in organ donors,” reads the release.

More about Thomas and Suggitt can be found here.

“Despite the obstacles sport has faced recently, coaches have continued to engage and inspire their athletes,” said Susan Eymann, executive director of the LSC.

“We are pleased to bring to you a look at what our local coaches are up to and how in many ways they are #morethanacoach.”

The LSC is encouraging everyone to share stories about their coaches and use the hashtag #ThanksCoach on social media.
