LETHBRIDGE, AB – The U of L Pronghorn women’s rugby team has added a member of Saskatchewan’s provincial team to its roster.

Ashley Albert has joined the Lethbridge club.

The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan player comes to the ‘Horns after a successful high school career with Carpenter High School. She was the team’s captain for three years and scored 48 tries over five years. In 2019, she was named the best forward and Most Valuable Player.

She’s a member of both the Northern Saskatchewan and provincial teams and has played both 15s and sevens, playing in the forwards with time at both prop and hooker.

“Ashley brings a keen attitude and it shows quickly on the field with her aggressive running and attacking skills,” said Pronghorn head coach Neil Langevin, in a release from the program.

“She comes to us after being mentored by Robin MacDowell and Kayla Mack in Saskatchewan, so we are confident she will a strong competitor for the ‘Horns. Her potential is high, and she will likely feature in her rookie year.”

Albert was on the honour roll throughout high school and plans to pursue a degree in agriculture at the University of Lethbridge.

Pronghorn rugby returned to training on September 2 and will continue with training over the fall with the hopes of competing in the Canada West Sevens Series.

Canada West is set to decide on the series and plans for winter sports on October 8.
