LPS deal with “high risk incident” on south side

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE: Lethbridge Police have released more details on a high-risk incident on the city’s south side.

On Thursday, September 24, while conducting a search warrant in a home along the 800 block of 16 Street South, officers located several suspicious packages.

The Explosives Disposal Unit (EDU) was called in to assist and ensure the safety of all involved.

Members of the EDU were able to render two suspicious items as safe and several others were safely transported away from the scene.

There is no risk to the public and the file remains under investigation. LPS stated that additional information is expected to be released at a later time.

Lethbridge Police’s Crime Suppression Team noted that five people were arrested stemming from this incident.

Officers are conducting a search warrant in a home and claim to have found “several packages of concern.”
