2020 Canada West Golf Championships cancelled due to COVID-19 travel restrictions

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Unfortunate news for University of Lethbridge golfers.

Canada West has announced that the 2020 Canada West Golf Championships scheduled for October 2 to 4 in Kelowna have been cancelled.

The sports body cited COVID-19 related travel restrictions as the reason for the cancellation.

Teams from British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta were all set to take part in the 36-hole tournament hosted by UBC Okanagan at the Okanagan Golf Club.

Unfortunately, sports teams from outside B.C. remain unable to travel to the province under guidelines from viaSport, the body that oversees sport in British Columbia.

Golf was slated to be the only Canada West sport contested this fall, following the cancellation of conference competition in other sports on June 8.

Canada West is set to make a decision on the start of two-term sports (basketball, volleyball and hockey) as well as second term championship sports no later than October 8.
