Calgary and Edmonton Zones have 93% of Alberta’s new COVID cases

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

153 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 17,343. Of those, 1,497 cases are active while 15,585 people have recovered.

142 of the new infections, or about 93 per cent, were in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones.

Three people in the South Health Zone tested positive with one each in South Lethbridge, the M.D. of Taber, and the County of Forty Mile.

West Lethbridge no longer has any active infections and there is just one on the south side. The north side has not had any active cases for at least a week now.

There were no additional COVID deaths anywhere in Alberta.

Provincially, 56 patients are currently hospitalized and 14 have been admitted to intensive care units.

1,269,261 tests have been completed among 968,031 people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 8,637 cases, 518 active
    • 124 deaths
    • 29 in hospital, six in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 4,808 cases, 786 active
    • 70 deaths
    • 20 in hospital, five in ICU
  • South zone – 1,820 cases, 41 active
    • 25 deaths
    • Three in hospital, three in ICU
  • North zone – 1,375 cases, 129 active
    • 35 deaths
    • Four in hospital
  • Central zone – 662 cases, 16 active
    • Seven deaths
    • None in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,132 cases, six active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 170 cases (one new), one active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 70 cases, zero active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 60 cases (one new), one active
    • North Lethbridge – 40 cases, zero active, one death
  • Cardston County – 105 cases, two active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 82 cases, nine active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 63 cases, one active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 48 cases, six active
  • M.D. of Taber – 43 cases (one new), three active
  • County of Forty Mile – 38 cases (one new), 12 active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 32 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 31 cases, zero active
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, one active, one death
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
