Edmonton International Airport now mandating temperature screening before boarding

EDMONTON, AB – Passengers flying into or out of Edmonton will have to have their temperatures checked.

Back in June, the Government of Canada announced a multi-phased approach for temperature screenings for all passengers to Canada and for travellers departing select Canadian airports.

This applies to both domestic and international flights.

Those with elevated temperatures will be asked to rest for ten minutes and will then be screened for a second time.

If the second reading confirms an elevated temperature and the passenger does not have a medical certificate explaining why that might be the case, they will be denied entry.

The first stage, effective July 30, included Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

Since September 23, temperature screening stations have been set up at another 11 airports:

  • St. John’s, Halifax
  • Québec City
  • Ottawa
  • Toronto – Billy Bishop
  • Winnipeg
  • Regina
  • Saskatoon
  • Edmonton
  • Kelowna
  • Victoria

Federal Transportation Minister Marc Garneau says his highest priority is safety.

“Our Government has expanded temperature screenings to major airports across the country to support these efforts and as another measure in our multi-layered approach to help protect the safety of the travelling public and air industry workers. The collective efforts of all Canadians have helped us during the pandemic, and will continue to do so as we move forward.”

All employees and personnel that enter or work in the restricted areas of these airports are subjects to temperature screening procedures.
