Healthy eating in city facilities presented to council

Sep 29, 2020 | 10:05 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– At Lethbridge City Council’s Community Issues meeting, the Lethbridge Nutrition Report Card was presented to councillors for their input.

The committee’s goal is to create a healthy food and drink option at local recreational spots across the city.

Currently, the report card for the healthiness of food choices in public spots is not great and is quite unhealthy at the moment.

Some projects the committee has done include Outdoor gyms, Urban Farmer and Edible Public landscaping, and AHS Lethbridge Walkability Roadshow.

The report outlined the healthiness starts with healthy habits specifically within children.

So far many facilities do not have healthy options compared to some of the other cities across Alberta.

Fountains in facilities were in good use before COVID-19 hit and in the report, they would possibly like to see candy machines being taken out.

City council has seen the report and will talk about it at an upcoming council meeting.
