153 new COVID cases confirmed in Alberta but only one in South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Wednesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

153 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 18,062. Of those, 1,582 cases are active while 16,213 people have recovered.

Most of the new infections were in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones, while in the South Zone, there was only one positive test. This was for a person in West Lethbridge.

One person in the Edmonton Zone died as a result of the virus, meaning it has claimed the lives of 267 people in the province to date.

Provincially, 64 patients are currently hospitalized and 13 have been admitted to intensive care units.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 8,909 cases, 585 active
    • 125 deaths
    • 32 in hospital, five in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 5,187 cases, 832 active
    • 75 deaths (one new)
    • 21 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 1,829 cases, 37 active
    • 25 deaths
    • Five in hospital, two in ICU
  • North zone – 1,430 cases, 108 active
    • 35 deaths
    • Seven in hospital, one in ICU
  • Central zone – 669 cases, 19 active
    • Seven deaths
    • None in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,133 cases, four active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 174 cases (one new), five active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 74 cases (one new), four active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 60 cases, one active
    • North Lethbridge – 40 cases, zero active, one death
  • Cardston County – 105 cases, two active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 82 cases, four active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 63 cases, one active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 48 cases, three active
  • M.D. of Taber – 44 cases, four active
  • County of Forty Mile – 40 cases, 11 active
  • Cypress County – 33 cases, two active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • County of Newell – 32 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, one active, one death
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
