Technical issue delays AHS ability to release negative COVID test results

Oct 1, 2020 | 11:30 AM

Alberta Health Services has confirmed that approximately 5,000 Albertans did not receive automated text messages or phone calls to confirm negative COVID-19 test results between September 10 and 29.

A technical issue led to a failure to deliver the results to those individuals, who make up three per cent of the total tests conducted during that period of time (224,000).

Albertans whose results were not communicated will be contacted either by phone or text message, says AHS. Only negative results would have been impacted by this technical issue, as AHS follows up with a phone call for those who test positive.

The issue did not impact the delivery of results through the MyHealth Records system, and pharmacists and physicians also received the test results without delay.

The province’s health-care administrator says the error was identified and corrected on September 29, and that the issue has not impacted any test results processed after that date.
