Lethbridge hosting Sisters in Spirit Vigil October 4

Oct 3, 2020 | 8:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lethbridge is one of the many cities across Canada that will host a vigil for the Sisters in Spirit.

October 4th is a day to honour the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two-spirit and LGBTQQIA people, and support families who have passed away.

“In Canada, statistics show that Indigenous women and girls are 12 times more likely to be murdered or missing than any other women in Canada.” Says Commissioner Michèle Audette.

The families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls have had to live with the horrors presented to some of their families.

The day comes after Lethbridge City Council unanimously voted to proclaim October 4th Sisters in Spirit Day.

Community members are invited to join a walk from City Hall to Galt Gardens where a candlelit vigil will take place and also will be live-streamed via Lethbridge Sisters in Spirit Facebook page.

When: Sunday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Location: City Hall and Galt Gardens
