Additional COVID-19 funding announced by local Community Foundation

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta is accepting applications to the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF).

This is part of the foundation’s COVID-19 Response and Recovery Grants program.

The latest funding opportunity was made possible by a contribution of just over $229,000 to the foundation from the Community Foundations of Canada.

Executive Director of the Lethbridge-based foundation said they have been awarding grants to local charities to address COVID-19 struggles since April.

“While we’ve allocated over $1.1 [million] to date, the request for funding is more than double. These additional dollars will help us extend our reach to those charities that have not received or perhaps require further support,” Davidson said in a release.

The ECSF is a $350 million endeavor funded by the Government of Canada, in partnership with the Community Foundations of Canada, the United Way Centreaide Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.

It’s been supporting Canada Revenue Agency-registered charities since May. To date, the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta has awarded over $720,000 in ECSF grants to 35 charities serving vulnerable populations hit by COVID-19.

Local charities who have been feeling the impacts of the pandemic can apply for a grant through the foundation’s website here.

The deadline to apply is October 30.
