Case of COVID-19 confirmed at Holy Spirit elementary school

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — On behalf of Superintendent Ken Sampson, Holy Spirit Communications Coordinator Anisha Gatner has confirmed a case of COVID-19 at the St. Teresa of Calcutta school on the city’s north side.

School officials were alerted by Alberta Health of the fact that a student from the school had a positive test for the virus. It should be noted that there is Not an outbreak.

Gatner stated that individuals who came in close contact with student are now isolated at home and the school is working with Alberta Health Services (AHS), and taking the necessary measures to protect all students and staff.

The school remains open and continues to work directly with AHS to follow all of its recommendations.

Following AHS directives regarding protection of personal information, the name of the student will not be released and information on those who are being tested for COVID-19 will not be released.

Parents and guardians of students, as well as staff, visitors and volunteers at any school, need to monitor themselves and their children for signs of COVID-19. If more information is needed about symptoms, parents can call 811 and keep your child at home if they may be positive.

Holy Spirit will provide additional information as it becomes available.
