TABER, AB – Over $200,000 worth of stolen property and 63 firearms have been recovered following searches in Taber by ALERT.

ALERT’s Southeast Alberta Property Crime Unit teamed with the Taber Police Service, Taber RCMP and Medicine Hat Police Service on its investigation.

That culminated with search warrants executed on September 10, where stolen property and firearms were discovered.

Three locations were searched in Taber and five people were arrested as a result of the investigation. ALERT says the group is suspected of being involved in break and enter and vehicle thefts in Taber, Vauxhall, Stirling, Vulcan, Bow Island, Seven Person, Barnwell, Coaldale and Lethbridge.

ALERT alleges the suspects were also involved in the trafficking of firearms.

63 firearms were seized during the search, along with about 60 disassembled firearms and parts, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Following the search, investigators spent weeks documenting the stolen property, which included:

  • Seven vehicles;
  • A utility trailer;
  • License plates;
  • Lawnmowers;
  • Compressors;
  • Generators;
  • Power tools

“ALERT was successful in disrupting a group of individuals who were impacting rural communities with thefts and property crime offences,” said ALERT CEO Supt. Dwayne Lakusta, in a release.

“We will continue to work with our policing partners and Crown prosecutors to ensure these individuals are held accountable.”
